Weekend Plans

Almost nil, actually, which is all right by me. On Sunday we're playing games with our friends Mark and Susan, but I think that's all. We will probably also...no, I've got nothing. I think I might go out and take some pictures of the neighborhood for you guys, but aside from that we'll probably lay low. This looks like it might be the hottest weekend of the summer.

What about you guys? Anything special planned?

We get out of work at two today, yeehaw! Cannot come fast enough.

I'm trying to think...

Okay, I think I just realized that I might be the first person in my family who made it to age 30 without any kids, either of my own or that I married into. Does that seem right to those of you who are reading this? That's sort of interesting to me. I was going to tell you guys about what I thought about last night's Project Runway, and to get all excited about this year's Amazing Race, and ask anyone if they watch Pushing Daisies or Mad Men or if they're excited about football season, but I got all distracted. I thought, "I wonder what the people who read this did last night? Did it involve poopy diapers, or arguing with a six-year-old about how cake isn't a good dinner? Was there mac and cheese or chicken nuggets? Was there that heart-stopping terror that even as an aunt or cousin you get a hint of when a kid misses a step going up stairs?"

My life does sometimes involve mac and cheese, but it generally costs more than $8 or more per serving and we never eat it at home. As for the rest, yeah, none of that for us.

Edit: Okay, so Jenny asked what I did on Monday, and this is actually a story kind of worth telling (if she had asked about Tuesday, I would have had nothing to say). So, Paul works at the company of a guy he went to college with, who's married to a woman he went to college with. Paul and George and Catherine decided it had been awhile since we had gotten together, and so they decide that Paul and I would go over to George and Catherine's this week (they have kids, so they couldn't come to us). So on Monday, we arrive at 5 and ring their doorbell, and Catherine is totally confused. Because, see, she thought we were coming on Wednesday. So I said into the intercom, "Okay, then, we'll come over on Wednesday, see you then," but she buzzed us up instead.

We had a very nice evening with them (chased their kids around, ate some pizza, played a game). The question when we got home was, "Who was wrong, Paul or Catherine?" Yeah, it was Paul. He had conflated the "5" in the arrival time with the date. And that, in a nutshell, is why I keep the social calendar.

Missions accomplished

You know it was a good weekend, because we got everything on that list I posted on Friday DONE. Paul got running shoes. I got these for walking shoes--and spent less than I thought, so now there's the question of, "Should I get another pair of shoes?" I probably won't, but it's nice to have the option. We got wine glasses and a tape measure (and some DVDs and some gum) at Target. Grocery shopping, done. Game store, we got the Ticket to Ride card game and Pickomino, both of which get our stamp of approval. And we also ate a ton of food, starting out here on Friday night, then heading to Frontera for a friend's birthday brunch. We ordered in on Saturday night, then went to this bar for lunch and Cubs game-watching on Sunday.

We did manage to make gazpacho last night, so I was only really lazy, not totally lazy.

Friday in the big city.

It's like all the other days, except Paul and I email each other more to see if we want to do something after work. I considered having him meet me for drinks and then going over the Art Institute for Free Fridays, but he needs to go to the gym, and so. I'll head home and think of where I want to go out for dinner.

Or maybe I don't want to go out for dinner, and I just want to go out for drinks, after dinner at home.

Weekend plans:

**must go shopping for a good pair of walking shoes for the France trip.
**grocery shopping. YAAAAY! (This week's menu includes shrimp tacos, Greek chicken kabobs, salad niçoise, and you know, burgers.)
**game store, for some awesome but truly nerdy games.
**buy a flexible tape measure, some more wine glasses, and probably some other stuff at the Tarzh.
**buy some new running shoes for Paul.

Hello!

Well, hi, everyone.

I plan on talking about shoes, and drinks, and fun things I do (but sometimes, this will just be things like "watching TV" or "having a drink" or "buying shoes", so there's some overlap here). I'll probably not talk about work, but there will be talk of food. Lots of food.

Mostly, I wanted to find a way to keep in better touch with my family, and so here we are. The blog's format will probably change, and keep an eye for plenty of pictures. I'm concerned that you all think I'm cold here all the time.
